Injectable fillers are non-surgical facial treatments used to slow and hide the effects of aging. Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Perlane® are brands of hyaluronic-acid based injectables used by cosmetic, dermatological and plastic surgeons to soften deep folds and reduce wrinkles in the faces of patients. Radiesse® is made of a synthetic substance containing microspheres of calcium hydroxylapetite.
An injection of numbing medicine (Lidocaine) may be used, if desired. Hyaluronic acid is present in all living organisms. In your skin it creates volume, resulting in a healthy and vital appearance. Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Perlane® contain hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal clear gel injected into the skin to lift the lip, wrinkle or fold. Once in the skin, Juvéderm® and Restylane® works together with the body's own hyaluronic acid and joins forces to create volume. Radiesse® provides a matrix into which the body's own tissue can grow and add volume. In this way, it is used for soft tissue augmentation
Injectable fillers can smooth out, fill in and decrease wrinkles. Injectable fillers will plump lips and define the edges of the lips, fill in and reduce the depth of the nasolabial fold, and fill depressed, acne scars.
There may be some mild swelling after the procedure. Using ice will help to decrease this. Most patients look normal with make-up within one hour. Occasionally, mild bruising may be seen or small dots may appear at the locations where the needles were inserted.
Wrinkles can be treated with laser resurfacing or BOTOX® Cosmetic. Another type of filling material can be used such as fat.
